I went Dragon Boat racing with a team from work at the weekend. With sixteen paddlers and our star drummer Suzie, we set out to beat the local competition and improve on last year's result of third place.
Though the day began brightly, thick rain clouds assured us of a regular soaking between spells of dazzling sunshine, with gusting winds drying us out as fast as we got wet. With factor 50+ suntan lotion protecting me, I ended up looking more like an albino than my lobster boy appearance of last year. :P
The boating itself was great fun and we stormed through the preliminary stage, setting the fastest time of the day in our second race. However, we had clearly peeked too soon and barely scraped victory in our semi-final. After a long but enjoyable day, we faced a final race against tough competition in a boat that we'd earlier seen capsize! Though we gave it our best shot, we were ultimately beaten and had to console ourselves with finishing third yet again. Still, I believe that a fun time was had by all and if nothing else we went away with yet another paper weight for the company trophy cabinet! :)

Being a real glutton for punishment, our drummer Suzie is also taking part in a 100km trek across the South Downs of England. She will be hitting the trail with a few others from work on July 14th, arriving in Brighton on the 15th after traversing perilous terrain right through the night!
